Why Coating Preparation Matters More Than The Coating
The bottle is the cheap part. Preparation is what decides whether a coating lasts.

Most of the work in a ceramic coating happens before the coating comes out of the bottle. Preparation is what the bond depends on, and it is the part that decides whether you get nine years or nine months.
It is also the part that gets cut when a coating is quoted cheap, because it is the part that takes the time.
Why Preparation Decides Everything
A coating is a thin, hard, transparent layer that bonds chemically to the clear coat. It bonds to whatever is on the surface at the moment it is applied.
If contamination is still there, the coating bonds to contamination. If swirls are still there, the coating seals swirls in and holds them under a hard layer for as long as it lasts. Nothing about the product fixes what was underneath it.
Stage One, Wash And Decontamination
A wash removes what is loose. Decontamination removes what has bonded: iron particles from brake dust, tar from the road, tree sap and industrial fallout.
Run your fingertips over washed paint through a thin plastic bag. If it feels like fine sandpaper, that roughness is exactly what a coating would be applied over.
Stage Two, Paint Correction
Swirls and wash marring are removed with a machine before anything is applied, because a coating over swirled paint locks them in.
How much correction a car needs is what mostly decides the price of a coating job, which is why we look at the paint before quoting rather than selling a fixed package.
Stage Three, Panel Wipe
Polishing leaves oils behind, and those oils fill fine defects and make paint look better than it is. They also sit between the coating and the clear coat.
A panel wipe strips them off so the coating keys directly to the paint. Skipping it is the most common reason a coating fails early while still looking fine on the day.
Stage Four, Application And Cure
The coating goes on panel by panel, levelled within a working window that depends on the product, the temperature and the humidity. Too early and it smears, too late and it leaves high spots that have to be polished off.
Then it needs to cure. The car stays dry and unwashed while the layer hardens.
What Accreditation Actually Means
Titan is Gtechniq accredited and certified. That accreditation is assessed on how a coating is prepared and applied, not on which bottle is used, and it is what allows a 9 year warranty to be issued on the work.
It matters because every stage above is invisible once the car is finished. A warranty issued against an accredited process is the only practical way to know the invisible parts were done.
Getting a coating quoted? Ask what happens between the wash and the coating. If the answer does not include decontamination, correction and a panel wipe, the price difference is explained.
