How Long Does Ceramic Coating Last
Two years or nine. What decides which one you get, and what quietly shortens a coating's life.

A ceramic coating can last anywhere from a single season to the better part of a decade, and the range has less to do with the product than most people expect.
Three things decide it: how the paint was prepared, where the car lives, and how it is washed afterwards.
What The Durability Figure Really Describes
A stated lifespan describes the coating remaining chemically bonded to the clear coat. It does not promise the water behaviour you saw on day one will look identical in year five.
Hydrophobic performance fades first and fastest, because the very top of the layer takes the wear. The protective layer underneath is usually still doing its job long after the dramatic beading has calmed down.
Preparation Sets The Ceiling
A coating bonds to whatever it is applied over. Over bonded contamination or polishing oils, it is holding onto a surface that is itself coming away, and it fails early no matter what the label says.
This is the single biggest variable, and it is invisible once the car is finished. It is also why Titan quotes a coating only after looking at the paint.
Where The Car Lives
| Conditions | Effect On A Coating |
|---|---|
| Garaged, washed properly | Performs at the top of its expected life |
| Parked outside, coastal Auckland | Salt and constant UV shorten it noticeably |
| Under trees | Sap and bird droppings are acidic and etch if left to sit |
| Automatic brush washes | The fastest way to wear a coating out early |
How You Wash It Afterwards
A coating makes washing easier. It does not remove the need to wash, and it does not protect itself from a dirty sponge.
- Two buckets, clean media, wheels last and never with the same mitt
- Rinse thoroughly before anything touches the paint
- Dry with a clean plush microfibre rather than letting it air dry
- Keep it away from automatic brush washes entirely
- Get bird droppings and sap off promptly rather than at the weekend
What The 9 Year Warranty Covers
Titan is Gtechniq accredited and certified, and that accreditation is what allows a 9 year warranty to be issued on coating work. The warranty is issued against the coating performing, on an accredited preparation and application process.
It is not a promise that the car cannot be scratched, and it is not a substitute for washing the car. Ab will walk through exactly what it covers before you commit.
